I selected this book because I had found another book by the same author and illustrator and I thought that book was great and I figured that this one would be awesome as well.   This is a counting book that takes place in the rainforest.  The book talks about momma animals and baby animals.  The story talks about animals that are native to the rainforest such as the marmomet, butterfly, parrot, leaf cutter, honey bear, boa, poisoned dart frog, ocelot, sloth and howler monkey.
The illustrations in this book are rendered in polymer clay.  The use of clay gives the illustrations a three-dimensional look.  The illustrations are done in cool colors such as blues and greens.  There is a vivid use of color.  The text placement is informal.  The illustrations are done in double page spreads.
This book appropriate for ages 3-8.  This would be a great book to use for a lesson on the rainforest.  The book describes the animals that live in the rainforest.  In the back of the book there is even additional information about the rainforest.  It is a great resource on the rainforest.  This is also a great book to use in younger grades for counting and math.  This would also be a great book to use around Mother’s Day.  The book talks about the mother animals and their babies.   This book has won several awards.  It has won the Benjamin Franklin Gold Award, the  iParenting Media Award, NYSRA 2010 Charlotte Award, IRA Teacher’s Choices Award and the Mom’s Choice Award.
